The Flash directed by Seth Grahame-Smith

Directed by Seth Grahame-Smith

Starring:
Ezra Miller as The Flash

Release date: March 2018

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are working behind the scenes to develop a story for Warner Bros.’ big-screen version of the DC Comic-based superhero The Flash. They are currently working on a treatment for the studio about the superhero, whose super speed allows him to seemingly break the speed of light and time travel. The character, whose origins began in 1940, have been part of the Justice League at DC Comics and has been given small-screen and feature treatments before, but with Lord and Miller on the case, The Flash will take on a totally different dimension.

Whether they decide to direct is still up in the air. They have not, as yet, chosen their next project. Together they have directed some of the most successful movies at the box office, including Warner Bros.’ animated monster The Lego Movie which was as much as a creative hit as it was at the box office. That one grossed $468.7M worldwide and spawned a spinoff and sequel, which Lord and Miller are both involved with. Specifically, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego sequel.

The duo also directed Sony’s 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street franchise and wrote and produced the 2009 animated Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs (1 and 2) for Columbia Pictures.

Lord and Miller are both repped by UTA.

Dang, just about to post this. But it's great that they're involved, hopefully they'll write and direct it.

Really disappointed as I'm not a fan of the comedy in cloudy with a chance of meatballs, and the Lego movie was their only good film. I was also hoping for a director who could capture the science and mystery behind the flash' character.

Does this mean as well the flash movie won't be as 'serious' and 'dark' as the current dccu movies btw? Hope so to an extent.

Yeah I really didn't find Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs funny. The Lego movie however was quite good so it's hard to say how they'll do with the Flash. On the bright side though, at least they're known for light hearted movies so hopefully the Flash is a lighter DC movie though not like Marvel in that they can't take anything seriously.

At least we know it won't be dark and gritty, and will most likely be the proper somewhat lighthearted tone it should be :alfred:

Someone on another forum I'm on went to the BVS IMAX trailer thing in Manhattan. The guy next to him works at the Forbidden Planet there and had a picture of him with Ezra Miller on his phone. Miller came into the shop looking for every Flash book they had. So we know he's doing his research.

Seth Grahame-Smith is in negotiations to direct and write The Flash, Warner Bros.' comic book movie based on the iconic DC Entertainment scarlet speedster super hero, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie project has a treatment from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the Lego Movie duo that were also eyeing it as a possible directing vehicle.

Instead, the busy duo is headed to a galaxy far, far away (in this case just down the street to Disney) to tackle the Han Solo Star Wars movie, thus instigating a new search for a helmer.

Flash already has a release date – March 3, 2018 – and an actor who portrays the classic hero known as "the fastest man alive" – Ezra Miller. Miller’s Flash, aka. Barry Allen, is due to be introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then more prominently in Justice League Part 1, which will be released in the summer of 2017.

The Flash is already generating awareness in the form of a hit television series on the CW.

Charles Roven is producing the movie. Deborah and Zack Snyder are executive producing.

Grahame-Smith is the author of such genre mash-up best-sellers as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. But he also also made a name for himself as a screenwriter, especially at Warners, where he is writing Lego Batman.

Flash would be Grahame-Smith’s feature directorial debut, although he has directed episodes of The Hard Times of RJ Berger, an MTV comedy he co-created with his producing partner David Katzenberg.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter was terrible and aside from that and a couple of other vampire stories, he's written a book about porn movies. Interesting choice. Somehow I think we could find better.

I had hoped Chris Lord and Phil Miller were still running the show, as the comedy on the Lego movie was excellent. But this guy has only directed one movie and it was mediocre.

I see a Josh Trank situation coming here.

Marvel announces unknown director - " What a bold, refreshing choice. Its so great to see Marvel supporting young filmakers!"

DC announces unknown director - "This is 100% Josh Trank 2.0, how dare DC give someone new a platform. No colour! Dark and gritty! Fuckk Zack Snyder!"

In this case though, I'm only concerned because he's directed only one movie, which wasn't decent in my viewing but that's just me.

The Flash isn't out until 2018, which means it's rather too early for Warner to begin the drip-feed of early images and other details we've enjoyed with the likes of Wonder Woman, which is scheduled for release in 2017. What we currently know is that Ezra Miller is in the lead as The Flash himself, and that screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith is making his debut as director on the movie. He'll also be writing the script, based on a story previously worked on by Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

We've also recently learned, thanks to a source who has inside information on the movie, that the makers behind The Flash have a quite specific look in mind as they design the superhero's outfit.

Understandably, they're seeking to avoid "any comparison to the well designed and received TV version," we're told. To ring the changes, they're aiming to create a more "tech-based" suit that will look quite different from the burgundy leather outfit designed by Colleen Atwood for the series. Instead, this one will look more "like armour".

When it comes to The Flash's movie costume, a comparison has been made to the version of the hero seen in the videogame Injustice: Gods Among Us.

The design choice seems to fit with the rest of the DC Extended Universe we've seen so far; Superman's costume in Man Of Steel was all muted tones and tough, kevlar-like texture. In Batman V Superman, meanwhile, we'll be seeing the Caped Crusader wear both a classic cloth outfit and a heavily-armoured Batsuit - all the better for taking on the Son of Jor-El. Even the Wonder Woman costume we've seen so far has a weighty, armour-like feel to it - though as we recently learned, this may not be the only outfit the warrior princess will wear through the course of the movie.

According to our source, Ezra Miller's Barry Allen is now something of a "tech geek", which also seems logical given his day-job - that of a forensic scientist.

Of course, The Flash is still three years away, and things may change as Grahame-Smith guides the film to completion, but we're intrigued to see what the big-screen take will look like.

Thoughts? Personally I really liked the costume in Injustice and I like that they're differentiating this Flash from the TV show version, so this is a win-win for me.

I hate everything about this movie. I swear to the fucking gods if they cancel the tv show I will kill them all. One of the best comic book adaptions ever and they're just going to wash it out with this factory made summer movie bullshit.
