I thought i'd make a thread where people can rate graphic novels, comic book issues, etc.

This can be done in any way that you like, it can be as long (or short) as you like, or you can just simply give a rating. Just remember to use spoiler tags if necessary.

I'll start with a book that I read recently...

Penguin: Pain and Prejudice
Written by Gregg Hurwitz and drawn by Szymon Kudranski

Pain and Prejudice is a 5 issue mini-series about Gotham's resident umbrella-toting crime lord Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot. It tells the story of Oswald's origin through a series of flashbacks as an insecure child who has been tortured and ridiculed by everyone in his life (except for his mother) due to his physical appearance and strange behaviour.

The main story is set in modern Gotham in which Penguin is taking care of his elderly mother and going about his usual seedy activities, all the while being watched by Batman and planning something big for the people of Gotham, which I won't spoil.

One of my favourite things about this book though is the tragic relationship between Oswald and a blind woman he meets at the zoo named Cassandra whose insecurities give Oswald someone he believes he can relate to. I won't say too much about that though.

The trade I got also comes with Joker's Asylum: The Penguin, which is a great story with quite a few similarities to Pain and Prejudice.

All in all this book is fantastic and it does a terrific job of showing Penguin's humanity aswell as his unrelenting viciousness. It's extremely well written and the art is bloody amazing. The best Penguin story i've ever read, I highly recommend it!

9.0/10

Read this if you like:
Joker's Asylum: The Penguin
Batman: The Killing Joke
Joker
Lex Luthor: Man of Steel

Read Arkham Asylum ASHSE 6/10
I love Grant Morrison but I thought it was one of his weakest works.

Cosmic Odyssey

8.8/10

Great story , great art by Mike Mignola , but I was a bit dissapointed by the ending . It was a little deus ex machina , you know ? Suddenly a character appears and changes everything with his awesome power ...

This was my favourite moment of the book : John Steward has just found the doomsday device that will destroy the entire planet in ten seconds . There is only one problem :oldyella:
Spoiler: show

What a shame that this was retconned ...

Justice League - Cry For Justice

8.7/10

Brilliant story and dramatic finish and probably my favourite story involving Prometheus.

Batwoman Volume 2: To Drown the World

Image

9/10

Fantastic story, Williams and Blackman are knocking it out of the park with this series! And the art was a pleasant surprise, I certainly missed Williams on pencils but Amy Reeder and Trevor McCarthy did an amazing job (especially Reeder).

Also, this is definitely my favourite cover of the series not drawn by Williams...

All Star Western Volume 2: The War of Lords and Owls

Brilliant! I wish DC would give Tallulah Black her own solo series, with the exact same creative team as All Star.

Starts off slow, but the story soon picks up the pace with great detailed action scenes, and great character development between the two Blake brothers. Great twists and drama with an ending I did not see coming, highly recommended.

I was really disappointed with volume 1, so I may end up checking this out if you think it's good. :P
