The Other Comic Thread - Dark Horse, IDW, Image etc

Postby Red_Robin » Sep 9th, 2013, 10:17 pm

A couple of people have talked about starting this before and again recently, so I thought that I'd start one off for us.

The way that the DC Thread started, CROD and I would post up the list of comics out each week and we'd all chat about what we were reading and post news when it broke.

What is like is for someone to volunteer to 'manage' the weekly updates, like TFDutchman has taken over the updates in the DC thread. It's a slightly different job here though, as there will be multiple publishers. I'm happy for more than one person - one can do the weekly and the other can post solicits each month. Any takers?

I'd also like to know which publishers people want represented in the weekly update. Dark Horse, IDW and Image seem obvious- any more?

Id be happy to do either weekly/monthly releases. Or to share responsibility with another.

My only concern would be that it may become a bit unmanagable if we have too many publisher, so maybe a "highlights of the week" list would be better? IDK, just spitballin'.

Id say Image, Dark Horse, IDW, Dynamite and Boom are the heavy hitters. With the likes of Valiant, Avatar, Aspen and Zenescope being a few others of note.

That's why I asked- if people only actually read one book from Dynamite, then that makes that easy to add onto the main three in the topic title.

I read a lot of stuff from the "other" comic book companies. I've gotta wait for trade releases though, no place to buy issues from where I live. I'll definitely keep up with the thread though.

Anyone reading the new Robocop series? If so, thoughts?

I'd also love to hear some opinions on Hoax Hunters, been interested in the series for a while now and I finally got around to ordering the first volume recently.

IMO TMNT is just one kick ass issue after another by far my favorite incarnation of the turtles.

While I've all but resigned myself to no longer purchase single issues, I've been an avid collector of Mignola's Hellboy (dammit why haven't I started BPRD yet?!), and I've also been reading IDW's Ghostbusters, TMNT and Godzilla to name a few. There are quite a few other titles I want to check out though, namely the Green Hornet series that was released a while ago. IT HAS GIANT TYPE-WRITER DEATH TRAPS. :oldyella:

Oh, and Rucka's Queen & Country is definitely a series I'll hopefully be checking out soon. Sounds really cool. :D

I don't read any book from these publishers, but I do really want to read IDW's TMNT book. I read the first issue cause it was free on Comixology and I loved it! Seeing some news about the current story arc also makes me really interested. Does anyone know if they'll ever release the issues in TPB/HC form?

Oh! I also read the Strange Talent of Luther Strode! Absolutely loved it! Looking forward to reading The Legend of Luther Strode as soon as I can!

Also, Red_Robin, since you mentioned TFDutchman volunteering for the weekly updates for DC, is it alright if I do the weekly updates for Marvel? :D
