Taking fictional stuff waaaay too serious again aren't we?

I liked the prologue, besides the cheesy sex dialogue and the gay friend talk, it showed the different mental states and places where Batman-Batgirl are.
I think the sex scene is a nod to the obvious sexual tension between the two, since TAS, also consider that the Paris guy was making such a fuss and Batgirl saw no jealousy in Batman's face.

Some easter eggs:
-Jason Todd's death
-Harley Quinn
-Heath Ledger Joker prision scene Xb

The artwork left a little to be desired, but Kevin and Mark make up for it.

Yup. Unfortunately.
BTW Haven't we already seen a adaptation of that story on the old Teen Titans TV show? I don't remember...

I thought the movie was OK. The animation was not fluid at all, that was the worst part. The music number was the best part. The original story was all right, felt like a new TNBA episode.

Speaking of TNBA...

Spoiler: show
Timm has always had a hard-on for Batman being a complete ass to his (perceived) underlings and fucking all the ladies (Batgirl, Wonder Woman, almost took Lois from Supes), which I think is silly. The "controversy" with the sex scene is absurd whichever way I look at it though. :oldyella:

And being upset that Joker hired prostitutes? I don't even.

The final beatdown was more powerful in the comic, it felt much more flat here now that they changed location and everything. You can also tell the Joker's long dialogues work great in the comic but not as good on the screen, he's just going on and on and the scene barely changes, it was tiresome to look at.

Just saw the film, I absolutely loved The Killing Joke portion but thought the Batgirl section was just alright. Rather unnecessary and it feels kinda disjointed from the meat of the film.

The film is in no way misogynistic however, there are big changes to some relationships as has been discussed but it doesn't demean any of the characters. I also feel like many people who haven't even seen how the story plays are making unfounded claims while they should wait to see the film itself.

What is with Bruce Timm's Bruce-Barbara crackship? Why is he so fascinated with the idea of Bruce doing Barbara? It's such an... odd choice.

sexism: attitudes or behavior based on traditional stereotypes of gender roles

Not sure if this wasn´t sexist.
Spoiler: show
I didn´t like how easily Barbara fell for the "flattery" of the stalkerish mob boss and how Batman has to lecture her about how he is being creepy and "objectifying" her. As if a bit of Feminist jargon suddenly would make this portrayl of her better. Before and after the sex scene, which would have been okay if Bruce and Barbara had been shown as equals, she lashes out aggresively at her environment in contract to her usual more calm and rational personality due to her emotions towards Bruce.

Also, did you notice that Peeping Tom Gargoyle? Just kidding...

I felt very relieved when the first part of the movie ended and Barbara finally gave that criminal she and Bruce were hunting a beatdown. Hated that guy...

The rest of the movie was also a bit strange. After waiting so long for hearing Mark Hammil and Kevin Conroy speak those lines the actual product felt strangely anticlimactic. As does the ending. One of the reasons for this probably was seeing Barbara as Oracle. While I like that they added her transformation somewhow, it sort of made the story feel more optimistic and shallow. I wish it didn´t. The only highlight was the Joker song in my opinion. And that mostly because of Alan Moore´s lyrics and not Hammil´s performance.

Oh and I would have also loved an extended Penguin scene. I liked his little cameo in the original. All the other scenes of Bruce searching for Joker where there. Why was Oswald missing? Would he and Bullock be one overweight character with a hook nose too much?

So i finished the movie...and im honestly torn between liking it or hating it for one simple reason.

If you take out the first 30 minutes...its the killing joke.
Its pretty good in my opinion.

Animation wise it show me again how lazy american animators are.
Japanese animators get way less money and time, yet they throw out fantastic animations that look so smooth and all.
Its sad when you think what could have been, looking at anime like One Punch Man etc.

Anyway, conroy and Hamill were good as always...but i have to say that Kevin Conroy sounds a bit bored some times.

Here is the thing that bothers me:
Spoiler: show
First of all Batman comes off as a pretty one dimensional character sometimes...i hate that.
Bruce Wayne has so many layers and is more then what most show us.
But okay, im used to it.

But the BIG mess up is lying with Barbara.
Everything about her is wrong in this movie.

The plot with the Gangster made her look so weak and useless.
She works 3 years with batman and this is how far she came?
I would call it a rather sexist plot involving her.
The Bruce/Barbara thing is simply stupid...but its something that you could accept...if it would have been written far better then it was.
Cringeworthy is what comes to my mind when i think about this 30-40 minutes.

This is not something i hide in the spoiler, because its damn important.
The Killing jokes huge problem was that this horrible Event that happend TO BARBARA, was used as a plot for Batman.
And that is UNACCEPTABLE.
Barbara got shot and paralized, yet after the short scene in the hospital there is NOTHING...until the very end with her being Oracle.
It pisses me off so much.

Barbara gets used as nothing more then a plot device, even the whole thing with her and Bruce is used to simply give Bruce more of a reason to beat the crap out of the Joker.
It was not because of barbara or how she felt...it was for Bruce himself.

It makes me think of the term Manpain that gets used more and more.

At no point they made an effort to show the viewer how it is for Barbara, how she deals with everything.
It was simply about Bruce and the Joker.

And that pisses me off.
I was so hopefull that they use Barbara better...since every single batman fan sees the problems with the Killing joke story.
They go and do the same mistake.

I really cant give the movie a proper score, for that i have to take my time and think about it more.

Watched it last night. It was pretty good, in my opinion. The opening featuring Batgirl's backstory, isolated from the rest from the movie, was actually more enjoyable than I was expecting. Sure, I may not be a fan of the whole Batman&Batgirl romance BS, or the fact that Batgirl going from being the protagonist to having her minor role (like in the graphic novel) made that opening not fit very well with the rest of the story(the actual GN), but despite all of that, it really brought back some of the feelings from the BTAS that I've been missing.

- The performances were great (I almost forgot that Hamill also has a non-Joker voice, I really liked hearing it in the flashbacks).
- The action was great.
- I liked the animation.
- I enjoyed how faithful it was to the source material
- I loved the easter eggs
- The original story that they added was enjoyable but at same time it was out of place in the movie(they could have made a better use of those 20 minutes with flashbacks and less controversial creative choices)

If you enjoyed the GN, I think you're gonna like the movie. If you liked the GN, but didn't like what you've been seeing/reading about the original elements(*coff Batgirl prologue coff*) that they added, just skip the first 20-25 minutes of the movie, and pretend that there is no after-credits scene, and you're good to go. And if you didn't like the GN and didn't like the animation, then it's just not for you.
But yeah. It was a solid film, for me.

Spoiler: show
Also, I don't know about you guys, but the people at my theater got confused by the ending, in regards to Batman either killing Joker or not.
I still defend that he didn't, since Barbara being crippled remained canon.

A bit late but finally watched it!Let's see...
1. I didn't even bother watching the Batwoman segment. Not because of the Batman-Barbara relationship, but i was only interested in the gn adaptation.I have no problem with Batman "doing" Barbara.
2. Hammill was fantastic.I especially loved it when he was not voicing Joker, but the comedian. It reminded me of Luke Skywalker...
3."What aren't you laughing?"Boy,that was bad...
4. It seems to me that Batman killed Joker in the end.Only him can be heard laughing.Alan Moore said that in the gn Joker is just taken into custody.
5. When Bruce looks at his computer screen in the Batcave i can recognise all the images except two: The clown dressed in white(first row) and Joker holding a baseball bat(second row). Can anyone tell me where these 2 images were based on???
When the mugger or the thief stops to think twice, that is fear. That is what I am.Tonight will not be my end,but it will be theirs!

The first is a refrence to a scene from the 1966 Batman series where Joker disguises himself as the clown Pagliacci from the Italian opera of the same name. It later was refrenced by the Dark Knight (which makes its opening scene even better.)

And in Hush Bruce, Selina, Leslie and Thomas Elliot went to see it. This time Harley disguised herself as Pagliacci. Batman Tas had Penguin going to a performance of this opera, too I think, in the episode "Birds of a Feather".

The Mr Punch doll might be a refrence to Detective Comics #504 or any other story that features Joker using deadly toys against Batman

You´re welcome. To be honest, I didn´t know about the Pagliacci scene in Batman 66 before this.
