Kinda annoying the track list implies the end of the movie will be Barbara becoming Oracle. Obviously nothing wrong with that, but the ending of The Killing Joke is so ambiguous and so powerful that it deserves to be, well, the end.

Spoiler: show
I'm absolutely fine with the extra plot, it sounds like a good addition, but TKJ's ending defines that story. A story that makes you question the morality of a superhero idolized by modern culture is brave and daring, and this story does it perfectly. Ending it right then and there is what makes it so insane. Having Batman potentially break Joker's neck should end it, not be followed by random Oracle scenes.

I've been worried for a while now that this movie was going to be bad, but this... This is just gross. Who thought this was a good idea?

Congrats, you managed to make The Killing Joke even more misogynistic!

This, the first half hour feeling like filler with an obnoxious antagonist, awkward flashback transitions, typical monotone boring Conroy, the mental image of the Joker with prostitutes and the often jerky, cheap animation really made this a slog. Only thing I thought worked was Hamill. I'd rather watch BVS again.

Weirdest addition: the first 30 minutes are an (I believe) original story that's completely pointless and brings nothing to the table, and then The Killing Joke starts and is mostly normal...except they insert a scene where Batman tracks Joker by visiting prostitutes he's practically got frequent flyer points for. Why?

No surprise Tara Strong sounded so unexcited in that trailer. Back when I heard her talk on Kevin Smith´s Podcast she seemed more enthusiastic about her work.

Spoiler: show
Ugh...Batman wants revenge because Joker harmed "his woman".

Oh for the love of God Dc...your animated movies were so great once.
You had all you need right in front of your god damn eyes.
Everybody who even knows the basics of storytelling would have told you where the Killing Jokes problem was...but you had to go and make it 100 times more worse.

This is getting so freaking stupid.
Its as if chipping away the stool legs your sitting on DC.

POW, all my excitement for the movie is gone.
How can people be so stupid...there is absolutly no reason to go that way...im really mad right now.

"Yeah, that's where we need to go with this."

Erm, no, you didn't. It adds so many uncomfortable nuances to the rest of the story.

I can at least take solace that I can skip the first half hour and get straight to the actual meat of the story, but urgh, very disappointed.

The Barbara/Bruce relationship is a completely unnecessary change to the story of the Killing Joke. To be honest, I'm at a loss for words.

I mean, them having a relationship in the DCAU was bad enough but this is just taking it too far. I mean, why are Timm and company so damn interested in the two being a couple anyway? Smh.

The more I read about it, the more gross it gets. I don't think the writing staff were prepared to be outed for their subtle misogyny. Rumours are also spreading that female animators left the project due to the film's content. What a time to be alive! From all accounts, Barbara's characterisation is also awful, almost justifying why she's shot to 'learn a lesson' in some way. Urgh.

I think I've just lost all my respect for Azarello...

From CBR and a quote from Brian Azzarello, the screenwriter:

"The thing about this is that it's controversial, so we added more controversy," explained Azzarello. "I think she is stronger than the men in her life in this story. She controls the men in her life in this story."

Well, maybe this will at least end Dcs unhealthy obsession with this story once and for all and make the fans realize that Killing Joke was never that good in the first place. Alan Moore would approve.

I"m just amazed that DC, faced with the already controversial but at least defensible prospect of adapting TKJ, seemed to go RIGHT for the choices that would make NOBODY happy: not the purists who would've liked to see it straight up, and not those who would've liked to see it edited to be more acceptable to audiences tired of the Women-in-Refrigerators trope, or who would at least like to see this presented as the birth of Oracle.

Did somebody think Bat-fandom was really really clamoring for a version of that sex scene in ALL-STAR BATMAN, just because Frank Miller wrote that one?

I think Dc really wasted a chance here.
