Batman - A Telltale Game

Postby Mr_Weasel_ » Dec 4th, 2015, 5:22 am

During 2015's Video Game Awards Telltale announced that they would be releasing a Batman game in the new year. Details at the moment are sparse but the reveal was accompanied by a trailer and a few comments from Telltale themselves:
Telltale wrote:At Telltale, we’ve been honored to bring our unique approach to interactive storytelling to some of the biggest entertainment franchises in the world, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be exploring what it means to be Batman in an all-new series starting next year,” said Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. “This iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.

As a die-hard telltale fan, I am excited for this. Too bad I have nothing to speculate on. Telltale never really reveals info about their games. You sort of have to play them to get them. I can only imagine what telltale can do with this game! They were meant to make comic-book games

Since the Arkham games were released, this is my dream Batman game come true. I really hope the choices have meaning and weight to them and that the story is great. I'm so incredibly excited for it! :P

I love when I write something up on the news page, come here to post it up and someone's already done it! You guys are so quick.

I'm looking forward to this. I imagine that we'll get a more narrative-driven detective story.

Awesome. Looks like it'll have a noir feel a little like The Wolf Among Us. Not the biggest fan of their games, but if the stories good, it'll be good. It's Batman, I'm definitely playing it.

I'm actually playing TWD season 2 right now. It's pretty good.

Would love for this to be a Gotham Central-style game. But not sure theyd go that way at the expense of a Batman lead role.

Aww. Fuckin'. YEAH.

I find it funny that they announce this when they still haven't announced what the Marvel game they're making will be :oldyella: But this is gonna be so good! It's Telltales and an adventure game, so it'll obviously focus on the story, and that's just going to be fantastic!

Since it's a Batman game, I think it would be fair to assume that we'd play as Batman, right? Although I'd love for something like Gotham Central with a focus on Batman instead. Maybe we'll play as Matches Malone and investigate stuff and things :D

Gah, this is going to be so great! ♥

This is brilliant news! Will be looking forward to the narrative and art style they come up with. We can do detective work, eee! Also key to note this will most likely have multiple choice aspects; which makes me wonder, could they go all out and have the player act like TDKR Batman, ie kill people?

If they based the art style on the Black and White short stories, I think I'd die of happiness. I adore when Batman stories are written like crime thrillers.

This is a dream come true :)

I wonder which version of Batman we are going to get. From the logo and concept art in the teaser probably the classic modern Batman of the Hush era. Its going to be interesting to see which supporting cast members and villains appear.

Knowing this is a telltale batman game, they're going to push the storytelling to its limits (especially with an ip like THE BATMAN!!) so I expect to see a lot of Bruce Wayne... Maybe even just as much as batman. I also expect the joker. I can't see telltale making an original story about batman without joker. It's a dynamic I don't think they'll pass on.

What they should do, which I don't think they will, is five episodes each with a different story. So like an actual comic book. Let's say... Three episodes are original stories. Maybe the fourth episode can be a retelling of a story (ex: knightfall, TDKR, etc) and the fifth and final episode have it be an original story of batman vs joker. I wouldn't complain. If they don't do that with this game, then definitely do it with the marvel game.

If they do this game like the wolf among us, they can add bios for characters and have some obscure references. The possibilities of this game are endless. Jeez, I can't wait.

Just had the amazing epiphany that all TellTale narrative games have silence as dialogue options; can you imagine playing the game as a silent Bruce/Batman? :oldyella:

Really curious to see how this will turn out, I like that they're going a more early classic Batman route. Never tried any Telltale games but I'm pretty excited for this.
