Our community is full of creative people and we have begun to tap into that with the 'We Run Arkham' fan fiction section. Now we're expanding that with a little friendly competition.

Once every 4 weeks or so we will post up a new art challenge. This will consist of two words; a theme and a medium. For example, the theme could be Nightwing and the medium could be watercolour, everyone would then have a few weeks in which to produce their watercolour painting of Nightwing and post a scan or photo of it here, where we will vote for our favourite. There is no prize, just pride and respect.

Third A&MC Challenge:
Batman.
Snow.

Winner of the second A&MC challenge:
Nightmare

Winner of the first challenge:
Detective

Faith in site; restored.

Detective+Pencil. So much you could do with that. Better start brainstorming...

This is awesome; we have so many talented artists on this site, it's great to showcase their talents. I'll get on it right away!

I'm assuming we just post here?

as in Detective, do you mean characters like Harvey bullock, or something like Batman investigating a crime?

I think the whole point of it is to interpret the word into art yourself. Don't even think it has to be Batman related.

But great idea! I'll definitely be contributing :adam:

Well, the words that I choose and the fact that we're on a Batman site naturally point you down that direction, but it doesn't have to be Batman. There are plenty of cops and detectives in the DCU; one could argue they are all Batman related.

I've purposefully started us off with a very open subject. Next time, I might say "Poison Ivy", but I'd be more likely to open it up further to "nature". So it could refer to a character or our own interpretation.

My point is it'd be great if it was Gotham based, but I'm not going to force it. Just remember to stick to the site's rules about profanity and nudity. :alfred:

I've got a picture in mind for what to draw, but it's a picture of batman investigating something, is that allowed or does have to be just an actual detective/cop?

^ Of course it's allowed. It's YOUR interpretation.
I've got an image in my mind for one that I might do; in fact I might start it this evening as I've been staring at the PC monitor for too long already. Mine is also of a character investigating a crime scene, but it is really up to each individual what they do. It's art, not an assignment.

Ah, The Pencil. My arch nemesis.

If I can find the will power, and paper (I literally have none), then I'll give this a go, granted if I can come up with anything.

Question: is there a limit to the number of entries you can submit?

And i take it that "pencil" in this case means no digital work whatsoever right? No greyscale colouring or anything? :P

No limit, and it wouldn't be a challenge if we didn't push ourselves would it? :adam:

Don't worry, there will be plenty of digital media opportunities in the future. Some may even be a little too ambitious, but I'm going to try them anyway.

It's been a while since I've sat for half an hour and just drawn. I don't usually have the time, but I took some time out last night and did this. I'm going to make some additions to it, but thought that you'd like to see what I have so far.

I really do wish I had a scanner...

I actually prefer Vic Sage to Renée, I just find it easier to draw women...
