Is The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul necessary to Grant Morrison's run, and does Batman VS the Black Glove have anything that wasn't collected in Batman & Son/The Black Glove/RIP trades?

This thread is great I am looking for some great batman stories that I can grab on my iPad and read.

It's been a long while since I read a comic but I know I have missed some great Batman stories.

Never read hush but if someone can point me in the right direction for it, that would be awesome!!

Thanks!!!

Hi guys. I'm going on holiday on Tuesday and was looking for some good graphic novels for the flight.

I'm looking for Justice League and Flash graphic novels because I now own an a lot of Batman graphic novels and feel that I need to move on for a while. In fact just recommend some great graphic novels Marvel or DC as long as they aren't Batman.

Particularly Interested In:

Spiderman
X-Men
Flash

Phoenix - Endsong
House of M
Blood of Apocalypse
Messiah Complex (follow up is Second Coming which is superb)
Nation X

Thanks. I'll buy a couple of them for the flight and some when I get back. I've already heard that Dark Phoenix Saga is awesome.

Ok POW taking a break from Batman I'm gonna get Paul Dini's Streets of Gotham Series. Can anybody tell me if it is good or not without spoiling it.

Streets of Gotham is ace ... it's a bit patchy in places, but the stories with Black Mask, Zsasz and Hush are all good. Some cool one-off tales about the lesser characters too

... but if you really want to treat yourself, then get the Gotham Central series -- so, so underrated and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Just to warn younger readers tho, it is quite adult in places and isn't a typical Bat-read (in fact, Batman's rarely in it)

other good (non-Batman) graphic novel recommendations if you like your stories dark & mature:

- Punisher Max series by Garth Ennis (uber-violent but epic take on the Frank Castle character from Marvel)
- Locke & Key by Joe Hill (quirky horror / magic tale ... hard to describe but brilliant)
- Criminal by Ed Brubaker (hard boiled crime noir, beautifully drawn)
- Neonomicon by Alan Moore (Lovecraft-channelled horror, weirdly chilling & pretty graphic)
- American Vampire by Scott Snyder (clever take on the history of vamps in the US, great characters & dialogue)

(these are all pretty mature reads and aren't really for younger readers)

Resurrection isn't necessary at all, but it's a good read nonetheless. Think of Grant's other stories pre-Batman & Son as preparation for the "Main Event".

I've only read Hush Money and House of Hush from Streets of Gotham, but they were both absolutely excellent.

Read Heart of Hush and probably the rest of Dini and Nguyen's run on Detective Comics before you read the SoG Hush stories though, mostly to avoid confusion but also because it's fucking awesome.

New 52 Justice League Dark issue #9-onwards maybe? It's now being written by the guy who writes Animal Man, so it's probably good, anything before #9 was pretty bad though.

Zatanna doesn't really work well as a main character on her own to be honest.

I've heard good things so I'll check it out - and I quite like her, as one of the only female magicians she has potential.

Identity Crisis is essential.
She is also in Batman: Private Casebook, which isn't essential, but collects issues from Paul Dini's done-in-one run on Detective (so it's preeeetty good).

But that's terrible.

Could somebody show me a place to buy Batman RIP Deluxe Edition? And any recommendations that would give me more insight into Morrison's run?
